Our client based in Albany, NY is seeking to hire an experienced nurse as a full-time Practical Nursing (PN) Program Department Chair to oversee the PN Department at their college including instructional activities, staffing, curriculum development, supervising and mentoring faculty, student advisement, and participating in the college’s standing and ad hoc committees.

A DAY IN THE LIFE AS A PRACTICAL NURSING PROGRAM DEPARTMENT CHAIR

As the Practical Nursing Department Chair, you work closely with faculty and the clinical coordinator to ensure the effective day-to-day operation of the program. You oversee all instructional and related activities for the programs offered by the department, with responsibility for retention, budgets, and educational/operational outcomes. You ensure that our client’s program adheres to all accreditation standards and Nursing Best Practices as approved by the NYS Office of the Professions.

You recruit qualified and enthusiastic faculty and participate as an active member of the review team for applicants for teaching positions. When they hire new faculty, you act as a mentor and help the faculty feel welcome. You also review course outlines and assist in the evaluation of faculty members. Using your organizational skills, you assist with setting the master course schedule, developing curriculum, and making recommendations for changes.

At the beginning of the term, you participate in the college’s orientation programs for new students. To monitor student outcomes, you advise and engage with students in classrooms and clinical settings. Bi-annually, you participate in graduation ceremonies and enjoy celebrating your students’ success.

QUALIFICATIONS

● Current New York State Registered Nurse license in good standing
● Master's degree in nursing
● Minimum of five years of experience as a nurse
● At least three years of experience in nursing education
● Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Outlook
